SCREENDANCE & AR WORKSHOPS
Jeannette Ginslov has facilitated Screendance Workshops internationally since 2010 in South Africa, Rwanda, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, USA, Hong Kong, Portugal, UK, Lithuania, Brazil, and Germany. From 2014, this included the use of Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR). From 2019-2021 she conducted online Screendance workshops for the University of Cape Town 3rd Yr and Honours Choreography Students.
Winning Student work from Summer Media Studio Workshop that

Ginslov led in 2016 Nida Art Colony, Lithuania.
Ginslov's workshops provide a unique opportunity for filmmakers, digital media and dance practitioners to explore, the crossover of cinematic techniques, dance, choreography, editing and interaction design. Participants learn to work in teams, to shoot, edit, produce and share their own Screendance videos, documentaries or teasers for screen, online platforms or AR. Learning occurs through a step by step series of exercises, where participants explore choreography and movement for both dancer and camera and within a few hours come to grips with the technology, using a hands on approach. The focus is on the moving body, its digital and somatic materiality, the amplification of affect and the haptic through the choreography, shoot, edit and AR interaction design. TESTIMONIALS AND ENDORSEMENTS
Prof. Jay Pather Director, Institute for Creative Arts, Centre for Theatre, Dance & Performance Studies, University of Cape Town
Ms Ginslov is no doubt a leader and an innovator in her field...Nowhere has this been more apparent than in the several courses I have invited her to teach at the University of Cape Town, as course coordinator for the final year Choreography and Screendance...In essence Ginslov teaches with sensitivity and care and has the openness to work with aesthetics of varying kinds without judgement except critique of quality, application and detail in the making. She is able to challenge a class while being mindful of the various facets of their work and subjects. Ginslov moved through the work in her various critiques and guidance with aplomb. This is a great test for a teacher, and I want to say quite categorically that she excelled, and the learning process was rich and very well received.
TANZRAUSCHEN – International Dance on Screen Festival, Wuppertal Germany
The Screendance and Augmented Reality workshop is an exceptional experience in the field of performing and visual arts specifically related to the field of dance. We received an inspiring overview of new media applications and experienced the fusion between digital art and dance on screen. The application of the AR in this context generates never before-seen choreographic formations, which serve as a substantial tool to broaden the existing perception of dance and choreography. With the use of smartphones and tablets the workshop opened up new perspectives of storytelling and choreography
Lee Lappin - Creative Director of The Space, Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, Dundee Scotland
Jeannette’s approach to teaching and learning enabled the learners to seek direction, feedback and training whilst remaining autonomous and self-directed during their creative projects. I observed the learners confidence and enthusiasm for using film expand, and also the use of technology in general. The outcomes were of excellent standard and quality which is a testament to the work undertaken.
Nicola Van Straaten - Johannesburg South Africa
When I had trouble exporting my dance video, I asked Jeannette for some advice. Within minutes I had received a response from her; step by step instructions with screenshots and everything guiding me through the process. With her help, not only did I solve the problem but I also learnt something new (and important) that will certainly help me with future film projects.
Dominique Jossie - Cape Town South Africa
Jeannette Ginslov taught Screendance workshops to film students and dancers from The University of Cape Town through the Gordon Institute of Performing Arts in Cape Town. She also conducted the same workshop with Dancers from Siwela Sonke Dance Theatre company and The Durban University of Technology in Durban. With a long standing background in both the film and dance world. I would highly recommend Ginslov's Screendance workshops to any performers and filmmaker who wish to take their work to the next level and I would be happy to work with her again in future.

HANNAH MACLURE CENTRE 2015 Dundee Scotland. As part of the HMC Decoding Space Exhibition where P(AR)ticipate was installed April
Feedback: Tom deMajo Director Creator of the AR project Other by Quartic Llama "I really enjoyed it! First off I appreciated the interactive camerawork sessions, especially the constant connection with a moving subject. It was a good recalibration of subject/object and recorder/participator relationship. Nice! Second, it was also great for me to finally have a playful reason to use Aurasma and AR. It was fun working in a group. I really like your approach to using AR."
Feedback: Clare Brennan Curator Hannah Maclure Centre."It was wonderful to explore the medium of AR in a creative way. I was pleasantly surprised at how well our students (who are rarely required to move/be physical) took to the tasks. I would put that down to your well-paced and clearly instructed activities. It was easy for them to make connections between the work they are used to doing and the challenge to expand those ideas to collaborate with other disciplines (film/dance etc). It was accessible whilst remaining challenging and fun (a tricky thing to do!)."

Feedback: Dr Corinne Jola Lecturer Psychology Abertay University. "I thought your instructions when we were recording each other and emotions were really good. I mostly enjoyed the actual experience of using the Aurasma App. The actual doing is inspiring."

Feedback: Pernille Spence Lecturer DJCAD University of Dundee & Performance Artist. "I also enjoyed it very much. I think this could easily have been a full day workshop. You avoid technological novelty but have developed a beautifully creative way for people to interact with technology, story and physical experience."
