SYMBOLS (2016)
Jeannette Ginslov was asked to shoot and edit 17 videos for The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance (SSCD), Dundee & Angus College, in collaboration with choreographers and dancers from Dundee for the SYMBOLS QR Code and mobile app project. Throughout the project, the partners engaged with the local youth to inspire interest in the cultural side of cemeteries through investigative visits, symbol research and creation of interesting routes through cemeteries via the use of a mobile apps & QR codes. The dance videos inspired by prints were to be tagged to QR codes in routes through cemeteries, accessible via the use of a mobile apps. Music and dance for the project Symbols was based on the work of printmakers.
SYMBOL'S core aim is to strengthen the knowledge and public awareness of cemeteries and associated arts as an important part of European cultural heritage, particularly amongst the youth and those suffering disability. The project generated a database of interesting cemetery symbols which inspired a printmaking residency in Aviles, Spain. The prints were created, and inspired the creation of dance and music performances during a residency in Dundee in October 2015. The outcome was shown during an exhibition in Dundee in 2016.
